The 16th Annual Poetry Festival of the Liberty Museum & Arts Center will be held this year on Saturday, September 20, at the Museum, located at 46 South Main Street in Liberty. Poetry reading starts at 1pm.
This event began when then Poet Laureate of Liberty, Walter Keller, gathered some local poets together to read and share their work, and it grew into one of the most popular events on the Museum calendar. After Walter passed away, Marilyn Laufer, the current Village of Liberty Poet laureate, continued in his tradition.
Poets from many parts of Sullivan and Ulster Counties, downstate, NYC and Pennsylvania submit work for perusal, and are given time to share their poetry aloud at the event. Each year the poets bring offerings that are interesting, unique, and varied in style and subject. There is something for everyone to enjoy and relate to.
Following the readings, poets and guests are invited to partake of light refreshments and get acquainted.
Admission to the poetry festival is free. Since the Museum operates on donations, memberships and volunteerism, all donations are gratefully accepted. The Museum is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 12-4pm. Come early and enjoy the Art Educators Annual Art Exhibition before the poetry.
