Birthdays: Time, Memory, and Celebration
July 3 – August 30, 2026
Birthdays mark the passage of time, moments of reflection, and opportunities for celebration—both personal and collective. This exhibition explores the many meanings of birthdays: the intimate joy of an individual turning a year older, the shared traditions of parties and rituals, and the communal milestones that shape a town, a nation, and institutions. Through art, we examine how birthdays can be playful, nostalgic, symbolic, transformative, and even contemplative.
In 2026, we celebrate multiple milestones in our community:
250 years of America – reflecting on a nation’s ongoing story.
155 years of the Village of Liberty – honoring local heritage and community memory.
30 years of the Liberty Museum & Arts Center – commemorating three decades of creative engagement.
Artists are invited to interpret what a birthday is to them: a moment of joy, reflection, ritual, or change; how we celebrate ourselves, others, and shared histories; and how time, growth, and memory influence our sense of identity.
Submissions in all media are welcome
