Mother

May 2 – June 21, 2026

The Liberty Museum & Arts Center invites artists of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels to submit work for Mother, a exhibition exploring the many meanings of mothers and motherhood.

What does MOTHER mean to you? Does it bring up a favorite song? A fond memory of time spent together? A place she loved? A painful relationship? A sense of loss? A notable food she made? What does it mean to you, personally?

We welcome artwork in all media that reflects biological, chosen, ancestral, symbolic, and personal interpretations of motherhood, as well as the joys, challenges, tenderness, strength, loss, and labor that come with caring for others. Artists and makers, writers, musicians, and members of the public are all encouraged to apply.

This exhibition is rooted in shared stories and lived experience, honoring the ways mothers and mother-figures shape families, cultures, and communities. However you would like to share your experience, we welcome your submission.

If your mother made a memorable dish, consider preparing that recipe to share at our Mother’s Day Luncheon on May 10th, 2026. We are also planning a roundtable panel discussion where participants can share memories and reflections about their mothers.

Please indicate your medium and the nature of your proposal so we can plan the space your piece will occupy. Send your ideas and images (if applicable) to the show curator, Naomi Frumess, at nfrumessfnp396@gmail.com, or call (845) 807-6656 or (845) 807-6055.

We look forward to celebrating this meaningful and personal exploration of Mother with our community.
